How to Switch Electricity Suppliers?
Many people are put off by the idea of switching electricity and gas suppliers as switching often sounds like a hassle. If you have recently moved into a house/apartment with an electricity meter already installed, then it’s very easy to change to another provider. After you’ve shopped around and compared deals, it takes just a few minutes to set up an installation date and time.
Because switching electricity suppliers is a very simple process, you won’t need to go running around the house for a handful of documents. When switching, all you will need is:
-
Your most recent electricity & gas bill - you will need your MPRN from the electricity bill and the GPRN from the gas bill.
-
Your current meter reading.

How Does it Work?
If you’re looking to switch to PrepayPower today and are curious to know how long the entire process takes, then you have come to the right place. The whole process from start to finish takes approximately one hour and involves these simple steps:
1. Sign up online or by phone
Signing up is very easy and hassle-free. You can fill in a form on our website. Alternatively, you can call us directly on 1800 989 517 to find out more about switching to PrepayPower.
As previously mentioned, the only things you will need is your latest electricity & gas bills and your current gas meter reading.
There is also no need to contact your current supplier as we will do this on your behalf.
2. Arrange an installation time
A registered installer will come to your home at a pre-arranged time. We install 6 days a week.
Our installer will send a text the day before your meter installation and on the date, the installer will call before his/her arrival.
3. During installation
On arrival at your property, our installer will perform a number of checks before commencing installation (note: all of our installers are fully qualified electricians). The installer will also discuss positioning of the meter and keypad to ensure that you are happy before any works begin.
During installation, it is also important that there is access for our installer to take a reading of your ESB meter. This reading will then be sent to your previous supplier so that they can prepare your final bill.
The PrepayPower main meter will be mounted as close to your fuse board as possible. Your keypad will be mounted close by, usually below the fuse board at light switch level for easy access. If you already have a meter installed in your home, then no new meter is required. We can simply update your account details and send you out new top-up cards. However, if you wish to change to a different meter, then one of our engineers can go to your home and replace the old meter with the new one.
4. Tutorial Time
Lastly, you will be given a tutorial on how to use top-up and monitor usage using your keypad. We also provide a welcome pack which includes two top-up cards, along with some tips and advice about the service.
